JROTCJunior Reserve Office Training Corps (JROTC) Benedictine’s JROTC program focus is reflected in its mission statement, "To motivate young people to be better citizens." That is why our JROTC program is designed to teach Benedictine students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork and self discipline. JROTC is mandatory for freshmen and sophomores at Benedictine. Emphasis during these years is on learning how to follow. The junior and senior years are voluntary and emphasis is placed on how to lead. Cadets receive academic credit for each successfully completed year. BC’s program provides cadets with necessary uniforms and books. Cadets meet twice a week with their instructors to receive formal instructions. Additionally, on each Monday and Wednesday, the cadets form up in uniform to participate in cadet led unit training, otherwise known as drill period. JROTC cadets can compete to earn a coveted slot to attend a week long JROTC Leadership Camp, normally conducted in the month of June. This camp provides the cadet an opportunity to practice leadership skills in an unfamiliar environment. Cadets are allowed a chance to participate in citizenship building exercises and have the opportunity to experience living and interacting with their peers from other schools in the military setting. Cadets receive instruction in military type skills in a "hands on" military environment (First Aid-Litter Carry, Rappelling, Land Navigation, Rope Bridge Construction and Drown-Proofing). Additionally, the camp provides the opportunity to participate in Adventure Training not normally available to cadets. The camp also takes advantage of recreational facilities available at military installations. Since 1902, the military tradition at Benedictine has flourished and will continue to succeed. For the past 22 years, the Cadet Corps has been rated as an "Honor Unit with Distinction," meaning it has been rated through inspections and performance as being in the top 20% of all US Army JROTC units in the nation. Benedictine Cadets wear their Gold Stars with pride. JROTC Competitions and Special Events - Click on the link below for more information JROTC Chain of Command
