3 BC Athletes Sign Letters of Intent - Benedictine Military School - Savannah, GA3 BC Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
Today is busier than usual at BC as Cadets Nick Wright, Carson Villa and Alex Hunt will sign letters of intent with Mercer University (the third Cadet to attend Mercer next year, as basketball players Jibri Bryan and Daniel Coursey last fall signed letters of intent for basketball), USC Aiken and the University of West Georgia. The signings took place in Benedictine’s media center, 6502 Seawright Drive, at 10:30AM.
Signing a letter of intent with Mercer University, Wright was the 2009 AA state wrestling champion at 112 lbs and received third place individual honors in the 2010 Class AA state wrestling tournament, 119 lbs. While at BC, he helped the Cadets capture two region wrestling titles in 2010 and a solid performance at state. Wright’s career record of 159-34 includes 98 pins. His other honors include 2008 AAA state runner up at 103lbs, three-time region champion, four-time state qualifier, Cadet team captain his junior and senior years, and voted team’s Most Outstanding Wrestler in his junior year.
Villa, a Class AA region soccer champion and selected to the Coastal Empire Senior Team, plans to attend USC-Aiken. Voted as his team’s Most Valuable Player in his junior and senior years, Villa also received All-Area Player honors those same two years. Other achievements include being the Cadets’ leading goal scorer for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years, a varsity letter winner for all four years at BC and serving as team captain his senior year.
Hunt plans to play baseball for the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. As the Cadets’ pitcher, Hunt had a 1.63 E.R.A., striking out 52 batters and only walking six. He was recently named to the 2010 2AA All-Region first team as a pitcher. Hunt recently played his last high school game, earning a 9-3 win over Savannah Christian Preparatory School while allowing only six hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
