BC to Host Region 2AA Basketball Tournament at AASUTremendous community support of Region 2-AA basketball tournament leads to venue change. Benedictine Military School (BC), which won the right to host regional tournament, has received approval to have the tournament at the 3,000 seat capacity AASU (Armstrong Atlantic State University) gymnasium, 11935 Abercorn Street, Savannah, in order to accommodate larger than expected crowds.
March Madness has come early as enthusiastic fans of Region 2-AA basketball will cheer on their teams at AASU’s 3,000 seat capacity gymnasium instead of Benedictine’s gym. Tim Blackston, Benedictine’s Athletic Director, said “Everyone deserves the opportunity to watch and support their respective teams and the 3,000 seat capacity at Armstrong allows us, as tournament host, to provide that opportunity. We are extremely excited about hosting a first class tournament and welcoming all fans,” Blackston added. “With all of the tremendous support and interest we witnessed at Monday night’s final regular season game, there was no question that the additional teams competing in region would bring greater crowds than usual,” BC Basketball Coach Jason Helton added. “Our Cadets are looking forward to hosting a tournament that has generated a lot excitement among the schools participating as well as the communities they represent. We are happy that we have been able to make this change,” Helton added. Last week administrators from the region’s member schools met and agreed BC should still host, and was fit to host, the tournament if it won the regular-season title game against McIntosh County Academy. That game drew not only both schools’ supporters but fans from other areas. BC is a Catholic, Benedictine military school educating a diverse male population in the military tradition. While BC is committed to preparing young men for college, it also fosters life-long learning and service to others. BC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
