FACULTY POSITIONS:

  • Chief Financial Officer

    Benedictine Military School is a Catholic independent, college preparatory, all-male day school serving 400 students in grades nine through twelve, located in Savannah, Georgia.  Established in 1902, our 70+ acre campus is centrally located and has undergone significant renovations and additions during our “Forward Always Forward” Capital Campaign, which concluded in March 2023.  Benedictine Military School (BC) is rich with history and tradition, employs top notch faculty, and has a robust extracurricular program.     Opportunity:
    Benedictine seeks a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO).  The CFO provides leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of the school’s financial operations.  The CFO is a member of the schools’ senior leadership team, reports directly to the headmaster, works closely with the Board and Finance committee, and helps develop the long term strategic and financial planning for the school.  The CFO ensures institutional integrity on fiscal matters and will have the following job responsibilities:
     
    • Provide the Board of Directors and Administration with leadership, vision, evaluation, and reporting on long range and annual plans.
    • Provide critical recommendations on financial and operational strategies.
    • Manage business office operations, business office personnel, and cash flow.
    • Comply with formal financial reporting requirements.
    • Oversee school financial records and prepare reports to the Headmaster, Senior Leadership team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
    • Prepare financial records and reconciliations for the annual, independent audit.
    • Manage and oversee all Human Resource activities to include payroll, benefits, 403(b) retirement plan and plan administrator, personnel policies, employee handbook, and other matters related to human resources.
    • Oversee the financial aid process, awards, and awardee compliance with financial aid policy.
    • Serve as a strategic team member with the senior leadership team: Headmaster, Principal, Assistant Principal, and the directors of Advancement, Enrollment, Facilities, Athletics, and Curriculum.
    • Provide risk management and ensure adequate insurance coverage for liability and asset protection.
    • Support Advancement team by providing financial reports and data as needed; ensure compliance with donor designations.
    • Oversee endowment activities and performance. Work with Investment Committee to ensure proper management of the portfolio.
    • Negotiate, issue, and oversee contract management services for leases, loans, and office equipment.
    • Work with department heads on zero-based budgeting and tracking.
    • Manage and evaluate six immediate employees:
      • Accounts Payable Manager
      • Manager of Student Accounts and Financial Aid
      • Staff Accountant
      • Business Office Associate
      • Manager of Cadet Shop (retail store)
     
    Benedictine Military School believes that each employee makes a significant contribution to its success.  The CFO is asked to be both visionary and hands-on in the trenches.  The CFO must desire to be part of a team, have a strong sense of ethics and integrity, and work with the mindset that nothing operates in a silo.
     
    Desired Qualifications:
     
    In addition to financial expertise, including significant knowledge of fund accounting, the desired candidate must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and at least seven years of experience in a position of financial leadership in a non-profit organization.  Experience in an educational organization and capital projects is very beneficial.  A strong understanding of complex financial instruments as well as proven experience developing financial strategies that support the strategic priorities are essential. Proficiency with non-profit accounting software is essential, preferably Blackbaud’s FE/FENXT.

  • Director of Operations

    Opportunity:
    Benedictine seeks a dynamic Director of Operations to provide leadership, management, and maintenance for all aspects of the school’s facility operations.  The Director of Operations is a member of the schools’ senior leadership team, reports directly to the headmaster, works closely with the Buildings and Grounds committee, and helps develop and implement the long-term strategic goals for the buildings and grounds.  The Director of Facilities will have the following responsibilities:
     
    • Develop and implement a facility management program including preventive maintenance and life-cycle requirements
    • Conduct and document regular facility inspections and safety drills (i.e. fire, safety, liability, workers’ comp, etc.)
    • Ensure compliance with government, health, and safety standards and industry codes
    • Oversee and coordinate facility construction and renovations
    • Oversee and assist with property maintenance on adjacent lands (Benedictine Commons and northern tract)
    • Assist with the coordination of building space and layout for maximum efficiency
    • Supervise maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and grounds
    • Manage facility central services including security, cleaning, janitorial, waste disposal, recycling, and parking, and safety drills.
    • Oversee and monitor janitorial schedules and performance to ensure maximum efficiency and to meet the demands of the facility usage
    • Manage facility systems to meet the demands of facility schedules and usage
    • Obtain quotes from vendors and suppliers to optimize cost effectiveness and efficiency
    • Assist with contract negotiations to optimize delivery and cost savings
    • Manage contractor and vendor relationships pertaining to buildings and grounds
    • Manage and review service contracts to ensure that facility needs are being met
    • Check work completed by contractors and vendors; approve payments to contractors and vendors
    • Plan and monitor facility staffing levels; ensure efficient utilization of facility staff
    • Ensure facility maintains compliance with safety practices
    • Manage facility staff: performance reviews, development, and training
    • Verify and sign off on facility staff timesheets, vacation, and sick leave
    • Monitor and advise on energy efficiency
    • Prepare and manage the facilities budget, including capital improvements and security
    • Attend and participate in reports and reviews of facility-related budgets, finances, contracts, expenditures, and purchases
    • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual written reports as required, including reports on acquisition and disposition of capital assets
    • Ensure the security of the facility
    • Respond to facility and equipment alarms and equipment failure
    • Provide prompt response to requests and issues from facility occupants
    • Implement best practices in all areas of facility management to increase efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance and facility operation
    • Manage facility assets for stewardship, accountability, and protection
    • Oversee grounds keeping/exterior maintenance/athletic facilities, athletic fields, and adjacent properties
    • Oversee Manager of Informational Technology (IT)
    • Coordinate school vehicle repairs, maintenance, and registrations
    • Oversee and coordinate logistics for school vehicles (usage, replacement)
    • Maintain asset inventory for insurance liability, depreciation schedules, fixed assets disposal and record keeping
    • Maintain and follow all safety protocols and practices at all times
    • Assist in in other facilities related duties as assigned by Headmaster and Principal
     
    Desired Qualifications:
    At least 7 years in facilities management/leadership position; working knowledge of facilities management software; working knowledge of HVAC software and systems; working knowledge of other physical plant systems to include electrical and plumbing; ability to shift gears quickly and an eye for detail; strong organizational skills; ability to foster teamwork; possess a determination to get the job done.
