  • Former Benedictine Cadet Justin Thomas Jr. Returns to Savannah After Stellar College World Series Run

    Savannah native and former Benedictine Military School standout Justin Thomas Jr. returned home today after a breakout season with the Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team. Thomas played a key role in Arkansas run at the College World Series in Omaha, finishing the tournament an impressive 8-for-14 (.571) with three RBIs and a double, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
    While back in Savannah, Thomas visited Benedictine’s youth baseball camp, where he spoke to aspiring players about the importance of hard work, discipline, and his formative years at BC. He credited the school for laying the foundation for his success at the collegiate level, saying he’s “thankful for the time and guidance” he received during his time as a Cadet.
     

  • Liam Hogan’s Journey from Georgia to Ireland to the World Lacrosse Stage

    Liam Hogan, Class of 2024, carved out a name for himself as one of Georgia’s top high school lacrosse players during his standout career at Benedictine Military School. But when it came time to make a college decision, Hogan chose a path few others take—one that led him across the Atlantic Ocean.
    Now 19, Hogan is studying at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, and his lacrosse journey has taken another major step forward. He has earned a spot on the Republic of Ireland’s Under-20 National Lacrosse Team, which will compete in the U-20 World Lacrosse Championship in South Korea from August 9-26.
    At the national team tryout, Hogan was handed a practice pinney with the No. 10—an unexpected moment that carried deep personal meaning. Back at Benedictine, the No. 10 jersey is a sacred honor, given each year to a senior captain in memory of Ricky McAllaster, a beloved Cadet lacrosse player who tragically passed away in a 2010 car accident.
    “When I got No. 10 at the tryout, I felt like that was a sign from God,” Hogan said. “I said, ‘I’m making this team,’ and that was some of the best lacrosse I’ve ever played.”
    Hogan’s story has now come full circle—his roots in Savannah and the values he carried from Benedictine are now part of his international journey. And he won’t be making that journey to South Korea alone.
    “My family will be there to support me, and I’m super excited,” Hogan said, laughing. “I probably can’t shut up about it—I think I’m annoying everyone in my family—but I can’t wait to play in South Korea.”
    The tournament will feature the top 20 U-20 national teams in the world, showcasing the global growth of lacrosse and giving Hogan a chance to represent both his Irish heritage and his Georgia upbringing on an international stage.

  • Third in the Nation

    Congratulations to Benedictine Military School’s JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) leadership team which placed third at the national competition in Washington, D.C.!!! It was an incredibly close competition, with only 1.41 points separating first and third place. Thomas Edison CTE from New York City took first place and Francis Lewis High School from New York City took second place. The team which consisted of Cadets Liam Clark, Heath Kulp, Manning McGinty, and Sam Malloy received the General Douglas McArthur Leadership Award and the General George C. Marshall Leadership and Academic Award. These awards are only presented to the members of the 40 JROTC JLAB teams that compete in the National JLAB competition which represents the top percent of all JROTC Cadets. 
    The boys winning academic awards are not only exceptional scholars but also diverse in their talents, excelling in athletics alongside their academic achievements." Representing the golf team is Heath Kulp, the Raider team - Sam Malloy and Liam Clark, football - Manning McGinity and soccer- Sam Malloy.

  • Four Cadets Players of the Year

    The Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards Banquet, hosted by The Savannah Morning News and the Georgia Ports, is a prestigious annual event honoring the top high school athletes and coaches across the area. This celebration recognizes first-team selections in the various sports, highlighting the skill, dedication, and achievements of the student-athletes throughout the Coastal Empire. During the event, the highly anticipated Players of the Year are recognized.  Four Cadets received this honor.
    Defensive Football Player of the Year: Herbert "Third" Scroggins
    Scroggins, who enrolled early at the University of Miami, had a banner season. The star edge was the Region 1 AAAA Defensive POY and was an All State Class AAAA 1st Team honoree. He had 86 tackles and 21 sacks, the most in the state.
    Boys' Basketball: Caleb Jones
    This year, Jones averaged 31.7 points and 7.2 rebounds and was the Region 1AAAA POY. The senior closed out his career with 2288 points and led the cadets to the Sweet 16 after trips to the Final Four the past two seasons. He was 2nd Team All Georgia and 1st Team Class AAAA.  He had 17 games with at least 30 points and scored a career high 57 in a win over Patriot and 49 in a win with New Hampstead.
    Boys' Golf: Bear Dollander
    The sophomore won the individual Class AAAA State Championship. He won medalist honors in four tournaments this spring leading the Cadets to the Region title. The sophomore is receiving much D1 college interest.
    Boys' Lacrosse: Wyatt Estabrook
    The three sport athlete had an impressive lacrosse season for the Cadets, who won the Area 4 Division 2 Championship. Estabrook was a key player as a midfielder for a team that advanced to the state quarterfinals. He had 25 goals, 33 assists and picked up 40 ground balls.

  • Benedictine Military School dominates spring Coach of the Year honors

    The Savannah Morning News recently announced its Spring Sports Coaches of the Year, and BC claimed four of the six honors awarded. This remarkable achievement is a testament to BC’s continued excellence across its athletic programs and a reflection of the school’s strong leadership on and off the field. These accolades underscore the dedication, talent, and relentless work ethic of the coaching staff. Their guidance leads to wins on the scoreboard and fosters growth, discipline, and sportsmanship among the student-athletes. The recognition further cements BC’s reputation as a powerhouse in high school athletics.

  • Dollander medalist, BC 3rd in state

    Congratulations to Bear Dollander on an incredible performance — shooting a 10-under-par 134 is no small feat, especially at a state championship. Winning the GHSA Class AAAA Boys' Golf Individual State Championship as a sophomore is a huge milestone and shows much promise for the future. Kudos also to the Cadets for securing third place as a team — a strong finish in a highly competitive field. Well done to all the athletes who competed!

  • Cadets set school records, earn state runner-up title at GHSA Track Championships

    The Cadets continued their outstanding postseason run at the GHSA Class AAAA State Track & Field Championships held at East Jackson High School in Commerce. The team delivered a powerhouse performance, setting two new school records and capturing State Championships in the 4x100m relay and their consecutive 4x200m relay.
    These stellar victories helped propel the Cadets to an impressive State Runner-Up finish in the overall team standings—a testament to their relentless hard work, discipline, and team spirit. During the season, 10  of the 19 BC track records were broken!
    A huge congratulations to our exceptional coaching staff—Head Coach Galen Houston, Caleb Collins, and Angie Goka—as well as to every athlete who gave their all on the track. Gratitude also goes out to the devoted fans and "road warriors" who traveled across the state to cheer on their team. Your support made all the difference. The future is bright for Cadets Track & Field—Go Cadets!

  • Four seniors continue their athletic careers

    We proudly celebrated the accomplishments of four outstanding Benedictine Military School seniors as they signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers.
    • Connor Desautels will wrestle at Gannon University
    • Walker Groves will play lacrosse at Massachusetts Maritime Academy
    • Colin Halligan will play golf at Georgia Military College
    • Michael Hogan will play football at Georgia Military College
    These young men were surrounded by their supportive families and a packed gym full of friends, classmates, and faculty. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, dedication, and commitment in the classroom and athletics. Congratulations, Cadets!

  • Cadets Win 6th Area Lacrosse Title - Elite Eight for Second Year

    Winning the Area title gave the cadets a bye in the first Round of the GHSA playoffs. BC hosted Lakeside Dekalb in the Sweet 16 of State and showed their strength by defeating their opponent 12-4 on May 1. BC was eliminated in the Elite Eight by a nationally ranked Lassiter. A great season was celebrated with the outstanding Senior class. 
    Saturday, April 26, was an incredible day for the Benedictine lacrosse program, celebrating the team's seniors while clinching a sixth straight Area title! The team has a strong sense of pride and momentum heading into the GHSA postseason play.
    At halftime, the Cadets continued the special and meaningful tradition with a ceremony as the No. 10 jersey is awarded to a junior to wear in his final season with the team next year. The tradition is in memory of former BC standout Ricky McAllaster, who died in a car accident in 2010 at the age of 15.
    Senior Walker Groves, a long stick middie, has worn No. 10 with pride this season.  He selected junior Wyatt Estabrook to wear McAllaster's number next year. Estabrook, also a middie, is a standout 3-sport athlete for the Cadets, playing football and basketball.
    Sophomore Wiley Chandler earned the game ball from Head Coach Dustin White after scoring three goals and assisting on two others. Avery Allen had two goals and two assists, while Groves and Josh Quasha also found the back of the net.
    Congratulations to Benedictine Military School Lacrosse Head Coach Mr. Dustin White ‘14, the Savannah Morning News’ 2025 All-Greater Savannah Boys' Lacrosse Coach of the Year for the 4th consecutive year, and congratulations to BC’s first-team selections Walker Groves, Tyler Redmond, Carter Young, Mason Young, Avery Allen, and Wyatt Estabrook! Kudos to second-team selections Joe Joe Mahfet and Sean Adams, and  honorable mention for Connor Desautels!

  • Golf repeats as area champion

    Back-to-back area and region golf champs!!!! Benedictine Military School got off to a solid start and finished with a total of 297 at the Okefenokee Country Club to claim the area and region titles and qualify for the GHSA Class AAAA State Championship May 19-20 at the Governor's Towne Club in Acworth. Five players finished in the top 10 individually, with Bear Dollander taking the Cadets' medalist honors.  The Cadets were the 2024 GHSA Class AAAA State Runner-up.
