April 10: An Easter message from our Headmaster, Fr. Frank
Dear BC Family,
As we continue to dig in during this virus, my thoughts gravitate to the Good Friday tomb, the covering of the Shroud, and the sense of abandonment felt by the disciples. These days, we long to see friends, to make contact again, to experience a “social distance” that is within arm’s reach. These days remind us that we truly are a “social” people and “community” is our place.
Wasn’t it during those days of emptiness that the risen Christ appeared; the quarantine suddenly lifted as we hear the angel’s greeting to the Apostles “He is risen.” Just these days of “shelter in place,” it wouldn’t surprise me if the confines of home don’t take on the semblance of enclosure that feels so confining, and how we long for the chance just to throw off the shroud, get out and feel the fresh breeze on our faces and feel that we, too, “have risen.”
Who knows how long it will be until we hear the “all clear?” In the meantime, we are confident that that day will come, that we will not only see the “light at the end of the tunnel” but we will be able to step out of the tomb and into the light. However long may be our nights, however distant may be the tunnel’s end, isn’t it with gratitude that we can remind ourselves that truly “He is risen” at that whatever the times may bring, it will be the Risen One, the Christ, who will have the last word about our tomorrow?
May your Easter be blessed.
Sincerely,
Fr. Frank Ziemkiewicz, O.S.B.
Headmaster
