Phillips Receives Koszewski Award

The Col. Stephen S. Koszewski Award is named for a military instructor at Benedictine from 1935-1939. This award is given to an alumnus who displays loyalty, service and dedication to his alma mater, and has been awarded annually since 1969.

Chris Phillips entered the halls of Benedictine Military School as a freshman in the fall of 1975. Chris thrived at BC and was well liked by his classmates, and he is very close friends with many of them still today. While at BC, Chris was a stand-out player on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was a member of the Sabre Staff and on the student council; even serving as the Class President during his senior year.

After graduating from BC, Chris attended the University of Georgia where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources and a Masters Degree in Forest Business Management. He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law with a juris doctorate.

Chris is a partner with the law firm Hunter Maclean here in Savannah and has served the firm for nearly 30 years. He is a member of the Savannah Bar Association and is a Charter Member of the South Georgia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Lawyers.

Chris is an active member of our community. Chris is a member of the Savannah Quarterback Club having served as the past Captain of the club. He is also very involved at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church serving on numerous church committees.

Chris has faithfully served Benedictine for many, many years. He and the members of the Phillips family have provided the Chuck Phillips Scholarship for 29 years. The scholarship is named in honor of Chris’ brother who graduated from BC in 1978. Chris has served as a dedicated member of the Benedictine Board of Directors for several years and has contributed so much of his time, talent, and treasure to our school. He is a member of the Steering Committee for our Forward, Always Forward Capital Campaign; the most successful fundraising campaign in the history of the school which has raised nearly $13 million dollars. Chris is also the chairman of the Major Gifts Committee of the campaign. His leadership and determination has truly moved Benedictine forward.

Chris and his wife, Cindy, have been married for 34 years. They have twin daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth, and one son, Will, who graduated from BC in 2013. Chris and Cindy are expecting their first grandchild, a boy, in August and we look forward to welcoming him as a member of the BC Class of 2038!

Congratulations to Chris Phillips, BC Class of 1979.
