Five Star Guyton Selects Texas Tech

"There was a lot of praying, talking to God and my family. When we went there (to Lubbock, Texas) and they (his family) all felt like it was home and I felt the same way," Guyton said. "I felt like I could focus on football, that was the main thing for me. We got a lot of good players coming in and have a great chance to do something good."
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder earned first-team All-Greater Savannah honors in his first two seasons with the Raiders. As a freshman he recorded 82 tackles, with 19.5 for losses, to go along with 10 sacks and helped lead the Raiders to the Class 3A state finals, where they lost to Cedar Grove.
As a sophomore, he had 52 tackles, including 13.5 for losses, with 6.5 sacks in nine games for an SCPS squad that reached the state quarterfinals and finished with a 10-1 record.
Benedictine junior LaDamion Guyton, a 5-star edge and one of the top recruits in the country, committed to play at Texas Tech on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025.
At Savannah Christian, Guyton played alongside Elijah Griffin, a 5-star recruit who was ranked as the top defensive lineman in the country in his class throughout his prep career before signing with Georgia, where he is now a freshman.
"I feel like Elijah helped build me for this moment," Guyton said. "He told me the right things to do. He showed me the right way to live, I’ll forever give my love to him."
Benedictine coach Danny Britt said he has been impressed with Guyton as a player and a person since he joined the Cadet program, which features four seniors who have already committed to big-time colleges in receiver Bubba Frazier (Notre Dame), defensive lineman Kam Cody (Clemson), defensive back Micah Williams (App State) and quarterback Stephen Cannon (Texas Tech).

"I was concerned when he first joined the team because LaDamion is very quiet, but he has fit in really nicely," Britt said. "He works really hard and goes about his business in the right way. He's bought into our culture and pays
"He already has the body and physical attributes of a top college player — he's just a physical freak and I've never seen anything like it at the high school level," Britt said.

attention to every little detail that needs attention with himself and the team.
"We had an H-back that came out to trap him and knock him out of a run play, and LaDamion just made this amazing move to avoid the block and then he squeezed it down to make the play inside the guard," Britt said. "He's just so athletic and fast. He's a very special player."

Cannon committed to the Red Raiders in April, and showed up for the ceremony wearing a Texas Tech shirt, along with a number of his Cadet teammates.
"I've been talking to LaDamion and trying to convince him to commit every day, but it was ultimately his choice to make — and I think he made a great one," Cannon said. "It's definitely a relief for me because I'm glad I won't have to go up against him. We've become really close friends, and I'm excited for the chance to get to play with him at the next level."
Guyton said Texas Tech stood out from the rest of his pursuers because of the constant communication he had with the coaching staff, including head coach Joey McGuire and outside linebackers coach C.J. Ah You. He said that played a part in making an early commitment.
"Coach has a plan for his players every day and I respect that," Guyton said. "I’m just going step by step and I figured if I was ready, why wait. So I got it out of the way. I’m a football player, focused on getting better at football first and then I would worry about college. It was a lot of stress, but I just went school by school and felt this was the best school for me."
Guyton was asked what he would say to Red Raider fans wondering what kind of player Texas Tech is getting.
"I’m going to be around the ball a lot," Guyton said. "I’m going to give you full effort, and I won’t disappoint you. I promise you I’ll work my hardest to be the best I can.”
