The Cadets went head-to-head with athletes from Regions 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the GHSA Sectional Meet, with the top eight finishers in each event earning a spot at the GHSA Class AAAA State Championships on May 11 at Spec Towns Track in Athens. There, they will face the top qualifiers from Regions 5, 6, 7, and 8 in the final showdown.
The sprinters led the charge, delivering explosive performances that showcased the team’s speed, power, and competitive edge. Max Carson captured first place in the shot put and has been dominant throughout the season.
This year’s State Meet format has been streamlined from a three-day event to a one-day championship. The new schedule presents a significant challenge, as there will be no preliminary rounds. Instead, champions will be determined solely by times and distances recorded across two heats. Sectional qualifying marks will be used for seedings and lane assignments.
While it is exciting to compete on the University’s new track facility, the condensed one-day schedule will demand endurance, focus, and consistency from every athlete.
