By Noell Barnidge
Benedictine Military School was honored to have Mr. Greg Gretsch, Benedictine Class of 1984, serve as our graduation guest speaker for the BC Class of 2026 on May 17. Gretsch is a Founding Partner and Managing Director of Jackson Square Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm that invests in software businesses. Since 2011, JSV has partnered with founders at formative moments, deploying over $700 million across multiple funds.

With more than two decades of experience in venture capital, Gretsch has partnered with entrepreneurs building category-defining companies across software, consumer technology, and marketplaces, including Strava, Upwork, and Jackbox Games. Five of his early-stage investments have gone on to achieve exits or valuations exceeding $1 billion. Prior to his career in venture capital, Gretsch was a serial entrepreneur.

Greg graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1984 and his brother, Dan, graduated from BC in 1986. Greg then attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems. A proud UGA alumnus, he remains actively involved with the university community and is the founder of the Silicon Valley Seminar, a program sponsored by Jackson Square Ventures in partnership with the Terry College of Business. The application-based seminar introduces a select group of students to entrepreneurship, technology, and venture capital, culminating in an immersive visit to San Francisco.

Greg has long been committed to civic and educational leadership. He previously served on the board of Pacific Community Ventures and spent seven years on the board of Cathedral School for Boys, including three years as Board Chair during the COVID-19 pandemic. He currently serves on the board of Unify America.

A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Greg has been an avid cyclist, runner, and swimmer for decades, having competed earlier in life. He has lived in California since graduating from college and has called San Francisco home for many years.

Greg lives in San Francisco with his wife, Caroline Heafey Gretsch, and their four sons: Henry (20), Declan (19), Dashiell (16), and Grayson (15).
