  • An Exceptional Signing Day for Football

Benedictine's football coach Danny Britt has built an impressive track record of sending Cadet players to the college ranks, but Wednesday’s Signing Day ceremony in the BC gymnasium stands out as the most notable class yet.
The Cadets’ mantra this season has centered on reaching the “next level,” and the program lived up to that message with six seniors signing to play at Division I FBS programs.
Four-star receiver Bubba Frazier signed with Notre Dame, while LaDamion Guyton, a five-star edge rusher who reclassified as a senior, inked with Texas Tech, joining quarterback Stephen Cannon, who also signed with the Red Raiders. Kam Cody, a four-star defensive tackle, committed to Clemson, and offensive tackle Carlton Hall is headed to Liberty University. Safety Micah Williams will continue his career at App State.
It was a day of celebration for a standout group of seniors who will take the field at Memorial Stadium on Friday, Dec. 5, to face Marist in the Class 4A state semifinals. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
“To have six of our guys sign on early signing day with programs of this caliber is extremely impressive,” said Britt, now in his 15th season leading Benedictine. “And personally, as a coach, these are players I truly enjoy being around. They’re good kids, and they’re all very dedicated. Sometimes you’ll have players with this kind of talent who aren’t easy to coach or be around, but that’s not the case with this group.”
"I told them we'll celebrate their accomplishments and their signings until 4:15 p.m. today, that's when we turn our minds back to be focused on beating Marist in the state semifinals on Friday night."

  • Finocchairo Award Honors Chris "Bubba" Frazier

Bubba Frazier, Benedictine’s standout senior wide receiver and a Notre Dame commit, has been selected as the winner of the 45th Michael Finocchiaro Memorial Outstanding Football Player Award — honoring Savannah’s top high school football player.
Frazier is known for his elite speed, a talent he has showcased not only on the football field but also as a star sprinter for the BC track and field program. His explosiveness and big-play ability make him the primary focus for opposing defensive coordinators, but slowing him down has proved nearly impossible.
“Bubba is a great player and a great person,” Benedictine coach Danny Britt said. “What sets him apart is his character and work ethic. He’s an incredible young man who understands what it means to be a team player, and his speed and athleticism make him amazing on the field.
“He’s worked hard to become an excellent route runner — he’s got quick feet, explosiveness, and strong hands. We’ve used him in the Wildcat, on sweeps, as a dangerous return man, and as a top-tier defensive back,” Britt added. “He’ll do anything we ask, and he’s the guy you count on when you need a play.”
In an era where many athletes seek the spotlight, Frazier stands out for all the right reasons.
“Bubba is a throwback, and I think a lot of that comes from his dad,” Britt said. “He’s quiet, respectful, and always about the team. It’s never about him.”
Winning the award was a meaningful moment for Frazier.
“I was really happy — I wasn’t expecting it, and it shocked me when Coach told me,” Frazier said. “Coach Britt told me my name is now in the history books. That meant a lot. I’m truly blessed.”

  • The Houston Impact on BC

When Jayden Houston arrived at Benedictine to join the Cadet football program—where his father, Galen, a BC alum, serves as defensive coordinator—his journey to a starting role was anything but easy. Jayden worked his way up the hard way, earning respect as a scout team player, then as a backup linebacker and special teams contributor, before finally breaking through as a defensive starter his senior year.
Now, Jayden is adding a new chapter to his family’s Benedictine legacy, playing a key role on a Cadet squad that entered the GHSA playoffs ranked No. 4 in Class 4A by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The significance of this season runs deeper than football. Galen Houston—once a standout Benedictine linebacker who went on to play at Shaw University—now has the rare opportunity to coach his own son on a defense filled with talent. Their shared journey has become a powerful example of perseverance, mentorship, and family tradition within the program.
"I knew Jayden needed development athletically and academically when he came to Benedictine, and that it was going to be a process to achieve his goals," Galen said. "But he has really grinded, and now he's reaping the benefits of his hard work, dedication, and commitment. I'm really proud of him." Jayden wears No. 11, the number his dad wore when he played at Shaw, and is known as "Sticks" to his teammates. On a team full of star power, he has become a leader on the field and in the locker room. He is receiving college recruiting interest from smaller programs in the Southeast.
Together, the Houstons embody the strength of a father–son bond built through discipline, growth, and a shared love for Benedictine football, making their impact on the Cadets’ defense even more meaningful.

On Friday night, Benedictine Military School avenged last season's loss to Ware County with an impressive 30-27 Region 1-4A road victory at "The Swamp" in Waycross. The Cadets showed grit and determination, rallying from a 21-10 deficit midway through the second quarter to hand the previously unbeaten Gators their first loss of the season.

“This is a huge win for us,” said Britt. “To go toe-to-toe with Ware County in one of the toughest places to play in the state means a lot to us.”
A huge thank-you goes out to the BC fans — especially the students — who made the trip to support their Cadets on the road!

  • Benedictine sophomore Matthew Gavin has embraced Goalball, a sport for the visually impaired

BC Sophomore Matthew Gavin, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound standout on Team Georgia, was a key figure in his team’s championship run at the third annual Window World Savannah Youth Goalball Invitational, held this past weekend at St. Peter’s. The event, organized by the Georgia Blind Sports Association, brought together hundreds of young athletes from across the U.S. and Canada.
Gavin helped his team clinch the gold medal with an 8-6 victory over Team Texas in Sunday’s final, scoring a goal and anchoring a strong defensive performance in front of a packed and energized crowd.
The tournament featured 16 boys and girls teams from across North America, including squads from South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Utah, Arizona, Texas, and Ontario, Canada. The event continues to grow in popularity as one of the premier youth Goalball tournaments in the country.
Gavin, who was instrumental in Georgia’s semifinal win over South Carolina, expressed pride in both the team’s performance and the unique culture of Goalball.
“I love the on-court battle and the bonds I make with my teammates,” said Gavin. “There are a lot of variables when you’re playing, and you have to make split-second decisions. It’s fast-paced and competitive, but there’s also a lot of camaraderie. Everyone is there to help each other get better. It’s a great community.”
The gold medal performance in Savannah has given Team Georgia a boost of confidence heading into the upcoming National Championships, set to take place this December in Austin, Texas.
“It felt good to win today,” Gavin said after the final. “Even if we lost, we wanted to play our game and leave everything on the court. This gives us a lot of confidence, and now we want to finish our run this season by winning a gold medal in Austin.”

  • A Busy and Meaningful Weekend for the Raider Teams

The Raider teams had a powerful and action-packed weekend, filled with both intense competition and heartfelt remembrance. On Saturday, they faced off against 20 other teams at the Adairsville Rumble, battling both tough opponents and unpredictable weather. Unfortunately, the event was cut short due to inclement conditions, and the Cadets were only able to complete 3 out of the 5 scheduled events. At the time of the stoppage, the Maroon Team stood in 4th place and the White Team in 7th among the teams that had finished the same challenges.
A huge thank-you goes out to the incredible group of Raider families who braved the rain to support the teams—setting up and tearing down the tent area and cheering from the sidelines. Your dedication and spirit mean the world to these athletes.
On Sunday, the Raiders participated in a deeply moving event: the 3rd Annual Savannah Professional Firefighters 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Enmarket Arena. Each Raider wore a badge honoring a fallen first responder who gave their life during the collapse of the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. They climbed 110 flights of stairs—2,200 steps in total—to symbolize the height of the towers, in a powerful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It was truly an honor for our Raiders to take part in this Memorial. Their participation reflects the strength, unity, and brotherhood that define both the Raider program and the spirit of BC.

  • Cross Country Tests State Course

The Cross Country team delivered standout performances this weekend at the OrthoWest Invitational, held on what is considered the most challenging course they’ll face all season — the same demanding terrain that will host the GHSA State Meet on November 7th in Carrollton. For South Georgia teams, testing themselves on the hilly North Georgia course is crucial, and our athletes rose to the challenge.
Competing against 39 teams and 336 runners, the team showed just how far they’ve come. Cole Minnich led the way with a stellar 13th-place finish, clocking 16:28.01 — a time faster than his performance at last year’s State Meet and a strong statement against some of the best runners in Georgia.
Also surpassing their State Meet times from last season were Asher Herrin, Will Hoffman, and Tucker Hollis, each displaying impressive early-season form and setting the tone for what’s to come.
A standout performance came from Ben Harvey, who set a new personal record of 18:30, while Wyatt Nolen and Pete Rosario smashed their previous bests — each improving by nearly a full minute. Ved Patel and Fischer Valbuena matched their PRs, showing consistency, focus, and grit.
With results like these, the team is building serious momentum. The progress is evident, and the potential is sky-high as the season continues.

  • Smart by Name, Smart by Nature

Benedictine running back Stanley Smart Jr. is known for his big-play ability and blazing speed. Last spring, Smart ran a personal best of 10.63 in the 100 meters and finished sixth in the Class 4A state meet in that event, while also running legs on the Cadet 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams that won gold medals.
Cadet football coach Danny Britt loves having that kind of explosiveness in his offense, but said Smart, a rising junior, is also a complete football player who checks all the boxes.
"Stanley is very fast, but he's also very physical," Britt said. "He's just under 200 pounds now at 5-foot-11, and it's solid muscle. He's dedicated in the weight room and getting stronger every day. He's in our Iron Cadet Elite Club with a bench of more than 300 pounds, a squat around 450 and a power clean in the 300-pound range. He's tough to bring down and we're expecting great things from him this year."
As a sophomore, Smart led the Cadets with 730 yards rushing, with three touchdowns on the ground. He also caught six passes for 83 yards and a score. College recruiters have taken notice and Smart holds 11 offers including Georgia Tech, Auburn, Duke, Texas Tech and Minnesota.
"It's been a blessing to have so may schools recruiting me," Smart said. "And I'm glad I have a lot of teammates who know about the recruiting world. I can ask them about everything, so I know what I'm getting into. It's definitely been a confidence boost, but it's also helped me become more mature.
"Now I know I have to be playing at the highest level because everyone is watching every move you make on the field, and even when you're off the field in public," he said. "You have to do all the right things, even when you think nobody is looking."

  • Dreams Come True for BC Grad Justin Thomas, Jr.

Benedictine Class of 2022, Justin Thomas, Jr., was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 11th round as the 335th pick. Thomas Jr. was a star in baseball and football in his prep days at Benedictine and started his college career at Georgia. After his freshman year, he left Athens to play junior college ball at Florida South Western State College, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors before transferring to Arkansas. He was named to the 2025 College World Series All-Tournament team as competing for the Razorbacks this season.
"I didn't know the Astros were going to take me and then I got a text from a friend saying 'Congratulations,' and then my mom showed me that I had just been picked. That's when it really hit me — I almost broke down in tears. It's been my lifelong dream since I was a little kid, and it seems surreal that it's real now, " stated Thomas.  Thomas Jr. is known for his excellent glove, speed and range in the outfield and his solid, powerful approach at the plate. He hit .302 with an on-base percentage of .438 and an OPS of .953 this year for Arkansas and had 6 doubles, a triple, 9 homers, 47 runs, 38 RBIs and 7 stolen bases, with just two errors as he started 54 of 65 games in center field as a junior this spring. "I had a lot of former teammates, coaches and friends who reached out to say congratulations and say how deserving I was to be drafted. It does seem like all the hard work I've put in has paid off. But this starts a new chapter in my life, and everything I've accomplished in the past doesn't matter any more. I have to go out and prove myself again, and I'm ready to do that."  The Astos said they will discuss where I'll be playing this summer!

  • Liam Hogan’s Journey from Georgia to Ireland to the World Lacrosse Stage

Liam Hogan, Class of 2024, carved out a name for himself as one of Georgia’s top high school lacrosse players during his standout career at Benedictine Military School. But when it came time to make a college decision, Hogan chose a path few others take—one that led him across the Atlantic Ocean.
Now 19, Hogan is studying at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, and his lacrosse journey has taken another major step forward. He has earned a spot on the Republic of Ireland’s Under-20 National Lacrosse Team, which will compete in the U-20 World Lacrosse Championship in South Korea from August 9-26.
At the national team tryout, Hogan was handed a practice pinney with the No. 10—an unexpected moment that carried deep personal meaning. Back at Benedictine, the No. 10 jersey is a sacred honor, given each year to a senior captain in memory of Ricky McAllaster, a beloved Cadet lacrosse player who tragically passed away in a 2010 car accident.
“When I got No. 10 at the tryout, I felt like that was a sign from God,” Hogan said. “I said, ‘I’m making this team,’ and that was some of the best lacrosse I’ve ever played.”
Hogan’s story has now come full circle—his roots in Savannah and the values he carried from Benedictine are now part of his international journey. And he won’t be making that journey to South Korea alone.
“My family will be there to support me, and I’m super excited,” Hogan said, laughing. “I probably can’t shut up about it—I think I’m annoying everyone in my family—but I can’t wait to play in South Korea.”
The tournament will feature the top 20 U-20 national teams in the world, showcasing the global growth of lacrosse and giving Hogan a chance to represent both his Irish heritage and his Georgia upbringing on an international stage.
