March 27: Update from our Principal, Jacob Horne

Dear BC Family,

We hope this email finds you and your family well. Benedictine Military School will follow Governor Kemp’s directive to remain closed through April 24th. We will take our Easter Break from April 9th-17th. We do sincerely hope to be able to get together again before having to conclude the school year. We are taking part in on-going discussions about many of the traditional events that we would enjoy at this time of the year to include Ring Day and Graduation. Again, as more information becomes available we will update you.

Due to the extension of school closings, we will continue with our C.A.R.E. (Cadets Accessing Remotely for Education) program. Thank you for completing the online survey pertaining to your son’s online class meetings. You overwhelmingly voted for your son to meet his teachers during the AM. Thus, starting Monday your son is expected to attend his online meetings. These meetings will take place through Zoom (www.zooom.us). Here is a YouTube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMUxzrgZvZQ). I recommend that your son sign up for an account (it’s free and makes joining the meetings easier). Zoom can be run on just about any electronic device (a desktop, laptop, iPad, or cell phone). Sessions may be recorded for educational purposes. Some of your son’s teachers already have begun these meetings this past week, and I have heard a lot of positive feedback.

We will follow a Monday’s schedule, which will look like this:
Monday:
  • 1st period (9:00-10:00AM), 2nd period (10:30-11:30AM)
  • Tuesday: 3rd period (9:00-10:00AM), 4th period (10:30-11:30AM)
  • Wednesday: 5th period (9:00-10:00AM), 6th period (10:30-11:30AM)
  • Thursday: 7th period (9:00-10:00AM), 8th period (10:30-11:30AM)
  • Friday: Office hours/Additional meetings (Advanced Placement/Dual-Enrollment) 9:00-11:00AM
**SAGE Dining will continue serving lunch every day until 1:30PM**

In some classes assignments and assessments are already due. The vast majority of assessments and modules will be conducted through myBC. It is imperative that your son regularly check his myBC. Though your son is not at school, schooling is still ongoing, and he has to keep focused on his education first. Mr. Kevin Knight (Theology Department Chair) recorded a video tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ent0t0Jcz1o&feature=youtu.be) to ensure that you know how to input your email and cell phone number in myBC for notification purposes. This is meant to assist you in your communications with your son about his studies.

Lastly, I know these times are also difficult and stressful for you. Whether you are an “essential worker” or you are being asked to work from home, having to work and take a larger role in your son’s education is a challenge. As a parent of two, I too am coming home and assisting my children with their schooling. Please know that we are here for you and if you need any assistance at all, please reach out to us. We will make it through this as every generation faces unusual challenges, and we will make it through together.

Please have a great weekend. Relax and spend time enjoying what we often take for granted when we are in our normal routine. God bless.

Sincerely,

Jacob Horne
Principal
