April 1: Update from our Headmaster, Fr. Frank

Dear BC family,

I hope this letter finds you well and clear of the COVID–19. This virus has put so many of us on unfamiliar turf and left us looking for a familiar foothold where we can find some semblance of a normal routine. I wonder if the message of this Lenten and Easter season might bring a measure of familiarity to these novel and oftentimes anxious days. Do such times remind of how fleeting our times can be?

It now seems like a light-year ago when we were thinking of springtime with its parade of events, things that we had come to take for granted. Such a time as these can remind us of how precious any moment truly is. Yes, we look ahead, and yes, too, we have a past to be thankful for or to hope for the redemption of those times. Doesn’t Lent remind us how tenuous our own grasp is on life? No, we don’t and can’t hold on to the past but we can learn from and take joy or consolation in those times.

Maybe, these days of turning inwards and offering “distance” affords us the opportunity of reflecting on times past, the good and the not-so-great, and offering a prayer of thanks for some, and a hope of redemption for others. Maybe in experiencing the novel we reacquaint ourselves with our own yesterdays.

May God’s blessings be with you during these days.

Sincerely,

Fr. Frank Ziemkiewicz, O.S.B.
