April 19: Update from our Principal, Jacob Horne

This Week, Looking Forward, and Closing of the 2019-20SY

Dear BC Family,

We hope that you and your family had a very happy Easter.  Tomorrow your son will get back on track with his online education.  Please encourage him to finish this quarter as strong as he can academically.  As we approach the final stretch of the 2019-20 school year, we hope to answer many of your and your son’s questions with this email.

Looking Forward
This past Friday we sent a Remind message to your son asking him to make his course selections for the 2020-21 school year.  Please ask your son if he completed his selections.  If he needs assistance, please see this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ghO6z82oV0&feature=youtu.be) or these written directions (Course Recommendations Directions for 2020-21SY.pdf).  If you have any questions or have difficulties, please email Mrs. Crossley or Mr. Lemieux. This is an important step as we make preparations for next year.

Closing of 2019-20 School Year
Recently, one question asked often by the cadets is if we will have final exams.  We will not.  The academic committee met before the break and agreed that final exams, which count for such a large percentage of a cadet’s course grade, would not be in the cadets’ best educational interest given the current, unique circumstances.  Therefore, your son’s second semester grade will be averaged between his third quarter grade (50%) and his fourth quarter grade (50%). Please encourage your son to finish this quarter well.

While our hope is to wrap up the school year as close to normal as possible, the dynamic state and local government policies continue to lend uncertainty to the remainder of our school year.  We have witnessed schools cancelling everything but classes and moving to virtual events; or simply cancelling events altogether.  We all recognize that there is no easy answer, and we sincerely hope that you continue to see that we are doing what we believe is best for our young men.  With no definitive insights into if or when our society will return to normal, we have to make decisions for our own BC community.  Below is a list of dates and events that we have begun planning.  We ask that you pencil them into your calendar, and as we complete our logistical plans, we will communicate with you.  Have a great week!

5/7: Last day of classes for seniors

5/8: Ring Day
  • Junior parents, we will send you an email with all logistics.
  • We plan for each family to arrive at appointed intervals. Your cadet will be presented his ring and Mr. Steve Salter will be present to take a professional photograph.
5/11: Senior Checkout (9:00AM-3:30PM)

5/12-14: Locker clearing (11:30-3:30PM)
  • 5/12: Juniors
  • 5/13: Sophomores
  • 5/14: Freshmen
5/14: Last day of classes for underclassmen

Sincerely,

Jacob Horne
