BENEDICTINE MILITARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL JACOB HORNE, TALKING ABOUT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL KEVIN FARMER '92:
"As an alumnus, he gets BC and the ethos, and the culture, and, at the same time, trying to make Benedictine an even better institution than it was when he graduated. As the assistant principal, he is my right hand and, without him, I would not be able to operate to the optimal that I am. Because I can inherently trust him with everything that he does.
"He does a fantastic job with student discipline, which is an unenviable job that nobody wants to do but has to be done. And for Benedictine Military School and the culture, and the programs that we offer, we have to have someone that is central, and integral, and understanding of the historical values of the institution. And Kevin does. He gets it. Kevin cares.
"The bottom line is he cares about each Cadet. He cares about the institution. And he cares about Benedictine Military School for longevity. And his leadership has been unmeasurable, and will remain unmeasurable, past our own careers here. He is the best. He gives his all to this school and you can't teach that. You can't learn that. It's just within him, where he is very driven and his passion lies with BC, and lies with the Cadets that are walking our hallways, and lies with them as they graduate and become men and join our greater society. He focuses on who they are going to become. And so, for him, there's a greater purpose to his role and responsibilities past just the every day 'tuck in your shirt' and 'have a haircut.' There's bigger themes and plans and aspects to what he does, and how he talks to the boys, and how he mentors them and cares for them, even in a situation in which they may need correction.
"Again, because of him, in my mind, as someone who's been around for awhile, he is integral to who we are today. So many people will think about Kevin, and think about how excellent and credentialed a baseball coach he is, but people who know the inner workings of Benedictine know Kevin Farmer is a central part of who we are today, and will remain a central part of who we are for his entire career. I just think there's nobody better."
