The Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards Banquet, hosted by The Savannah Morning News and the Georgia Ports, is a prestigious annual event honoring the top high school athletes and coaches across the area. This celebration recognizes first-team selections in the various sports, highlighting the skill, dedication, and achievements of the student-athletes throughout the Coastal Empire. During the event, the highly anticipated Players of the Year are recognized. Four Cadets received this honor.
Defensive Football Player of the Year: Herbert "Third" Scroggins
Scroggins, who enrolled early at the University of Miami, had a banner season. The star edge was the Region 1 AAAA Defensive POY and was an All State Class AAAA 1st Team honoree. He had 86 tackles and 21 sacks, the most in the state.
Boys' Basketball: Caleb Jones
This year, Jones averaged 31.7 points and 7.2 rebounds and was the Region 1AAAA POY. The senior closed out his career with 2288 points and led the cadets to the Sweet 16 after trips to the Final Four the past two seasons. He was 2nd Team All Georgia and 1st Team Class AAAA. He had 17 games with at least 30 points and scored a career high 57 in a win over Patriot and 49 in a win with New Hampstead.
Boys' Golf: Bear Dollander
The sophomore won the individual Class AAAA State Championship. He won medalist honors in four tournaments this spring leading the Cadets to the Region title. The sophomore is receiving much D1 college interest.
Boys' Lacrosse: Wyatt Estabrook
The three sport athlete had an impressive lacrosse season for the Cadets, who won the Area 4 Division 2 Championship. Estabrook was a key player as a midfielder for a team that advanced to the state quarterfinals. He had 25 goals, 33 assists and picked up 40 ground balls.
