  • Meet of Champions

At the Georgia Meet of Champions on Saturday, May 23 at McEachern High School, Benedictine Military School was represented in the throwing events by Max Carson and Meyer Hagin.
Carson delivered a strong performance against competitors from all classifications, finishing 4th in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 4.75 inches (new school record) and placing 7th in the discus with a mark of 163 feet, 2 inches. Hagin added another solid showing for Benedictine, placing 11th in the discus with a throw of 151 feet, 2 inches.
  • GHSA Class AAAA State Runner-up

A small team in numbers — but a giant force on the track and in the field.
At this year’s Class AAAA State Track Meet, the Cadets proved that heart, determination, and talent outweigh sheer numbers every time. In one of the most remarkable performances of the 2026 season, the Cadets captured the Class AAAA State Runner-up title while scoring in just five events.
Competing against schools with double — and in some cases nearly triple — their enrollment, the Cadets rose to the challenge and left an unforgettable mark on the State Championships. Their performance showcased not only elite athletic ability but also the grit, resilience, and competitive spirit that define Cadet athletics.
For the first time, the GHSA State Meet was condensed from its traditional three-day format into a single, pressure-packed day of competition. There were no preliminaries, no second chances, and no room for error — only finals, with champions decided purely by time and distance.
Benedictine’s sprinters answered the challenge impressively. Stanley Smart and Eron Mallard finished 2nd and 4th in the 100m dash. Stanley set a new school record with his State runner-up time of 10.52 seconds, while Eron won his heat and crossed the line in 10.72 seconds to place 4th overall. In the 200m. dash, Stanley was 3rd with a time of 21.50, and Eron finished 7th posting 21.92.
Smart and Mallard electrified the track once again in the 4x200m relay, leading Benedictine to a 3rd place finish and another school record 1:26.71. Alongside them, Josh Washington and Cole Henderson delivered clutch performances as members of the blazing-fast relay squad.
But the Cadets’ dominance did not stop on the track.
In the field events, Max Carson unleashed powerful performances in both the shot put and discus, adding yet another layer to Benedictine’s impressive state meet showing. Carson placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 52'2.5". In the discus, Carson and Meyer Hagin finished 2nd (157'4")  and 4th (152'4"), respectively.
From explosive sprint times to powerful throws, Benedictine’s athletes turned the state finals into a showcase of grit, speed, and championship spirit.
Congratulations to the Benedictine coaches and athletes on extraordinary performances and an outstanding season.

  • Dennis Knight SMN Coverage of Track Meet #6

Benedictine track and field coach Galen Houston brought his Cadet squad to the Savannah Country Day Meet No. 6 on Wednesday, hoping his athletes could round into form as they shoot for their eighth straight region title in the Region 1-4A meet at Wayne County High next week.
The Cadets looked strong in a variety of events as they finished second to Glynn Academy (68 team points) with 62.5 points in the boys competition.
Junior Stanley Smart Jr., who doubles as a star running back on the Cadet football team, won the 100 meters in 10.84 with his classmate, Eron Mallard, taking second in 10.95. Both ran legs, along with Josh Washington and Stewart Dunn, on the Cadet 4x100 relay team that won in 41.77 to edge Jenkins, which clocked a time of 41.85
Washington, who as signed to play football at New Hampshire, won the 400 meters in 51.04.
"This is a good meet for us because it's a final tuneup before we have our region meet next week," Smart Jr. said. "We've got a great relay team and some excellent sprinters. We're always pushing each other in practice every day."
Cole Henderson usually runs the third leg in the Cadet 4x100 team. The Cadets won Class 4A state crowns in the 4x100 and 4x200 relay last year. But Bubba Frazier and Stephen Cannon, members of both relay teams, have enrolled early at Notre Dame and Texas Tech to play football and missed their senior track and field seasons.
"That's what impresses me the most about our guys," Houston said. "We lost Bubba and Stephen and we had these kids step up to run some of the top times in the state this season."
In the 1,600 meters, BC junior Tucker Hollis won with a personal best time of 4:38.05 just ahead of teammate Will Hoffman, who was second in 4:44.70.
Cadet senior Gage Copeland won the long jump with a mark of 22-1 and finished second in the triple jump (42-6.5) in an event won by Jenkins junior Philip King (43-6).
BC also did well in the discus, where Meyer Hagin, a 170-pound senior, was second with a throw of 144-11, with his classmate Max Carson third with a toss of 142-7.

  • School Records for Carson, Smart

The team delivered a strong performance at the Bolles Bulldog Classic, hosted by the Jacksonville school, one of the premier track meets in the Southeast. The meet featured 60 schools and an exceptionally deep field of competitors across multiple events.
BC finished 3rd overall, scoring 69.33 points, behind track and cross-country powerhouse Belen Jesuit Preparatory School of Miami. Belen Jesuit, a Catholic school serving 1,400 boys in grades 6–12, is the defending 2025 Florida State Champion. Lincoln High School of Tallahassee finished 2nd with 70.50 points. Lincoln is a coeducational public high school with approximately 1,860 students.  Considering the size and strength of the competing programs, BC’s 3rd-place finish was an outstanding team performance against some of the top programs in Florida and the Southeast.
BC Senior, Max Carson, delivered a clutch performance in the shot put, competing against a field of 53 throwers. He opened strong with a throw of 51'9.25", then improved on his second attempt with 51'10.50". On his third throw, Max delivered his best mark of 52'11.75", securing 1st place, setting a personal record (PR), and establishing a new school record, breaking his previous mark of 52'9".
Earlier in the meet, Max also competed in the discus, where he placed 2nd out of 56 throwers with a throw of 148'10", capping off an excellent overall performance in both throwing events.
The boys’ 100-meter dash alone highlighted the scale of the competition. With 171 runners, the event required 26 sections. Stanley Smart, Jr. and Eron Mallard finished 1, 2 in the 100m. among the runners!!  Stanley also placed 1st in the 200m dash (21.50), breaking the 2018 record (21.71) held by Dennis Bailey, Jr. The meet served as an excellent midseason preview as teams continue preparing for championship competition later this spring. Performances at the Bolles Bulldog Classic provided a strong indication of where athletes stand as the season progresses and helped build momentum heading into the second half of the schedule.

  • Exciting Season for Track & Field

Coach Houston and his staff have elevated the Cadets' Track & Field program to new heights in recent years. With two meets on the schedule this week, many athletes are stepping outside their comfort zones and trying new events to build depth across the team. The experienced veterans have embraced leadership roles, working closely with the younger Cadets on explosive starts, smooth baton exchanges, and proper running and throwing form.
One standout Senior Cadet, Meyer Hagin, has set his sights on becoming a decathlete—a rare and demanding pursuit that requires mastering ten events. Finding meets that include specialized events like the javelin can be challenging, but his commitment to expanding his skill set reflects the drive and determination that define this team.
The Cadets once again demonstrated their depth, speed, and strength at SCDS Meet #3, showcasing the progress and unity that continue to push the program forward.

  • Hagin Competes in AAU Junior Olympics

Congratulations to senior Meyer Hagin as he delivered a standout performance in the decathlon at the 2025 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston. He achieved personal records (PRs) in six events: 100m Dash, 400m Dash, 1500m Run, High Jump, Pole Vault, and secured 1st place in the Javelin with an impressive throw of 156'11"! Overall, Meyer boosted his total score by 160 points from his previous decathlon just a month ago, finishing with 4,608 points and placing 25th overall in a highly competitive field. The decathlon is a grueling two-day event consisting of 10 track and field challenges, testing an athlete’s speed, strength, endurance, and versatility across sprints, distance runs, jumps, and throws. Meyer set the school record in the Discus this spring with a throw of 157'7". Way to go, Meyer – your hard work and progress are truly inspiring!
