  • Dreams Come True for BC Grad Justin Thomas, Jr.

Benedictine Class of 2022, Justin Thomas, Jr., was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 11th round as the 335th pick. Thomas Jr. was a star in baseball and football in his prep days at Benedictine and started his college career at Georgia. After his freshman year, he left Athens to play junior college ball at Florida South Western State College, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors before transferring to Arkansas. He was named to the 2025 College World Series All-Tournament team as competing for the Razorbacks this season.
"I didn't know the Astros were going to take me and then I got a text from a friend saying 'Congratulations,' and then my mom showed me that I had just been picked. That's when it really hit me — I almost broke down in tears. It's been my lifelong dream since I was a little kid, and it seems surreal that it's real now, " stated Thomas.  Thomas Jr. is known for his excellent glove, speed and range in the outfield and his solid, powerful approach at the plate. He hit .302 with an on-base percentage of .438 and an OPS of .953 this year for Arkansas and had 6 doubles, a triple, 9 homers, 47 runs, 38 RBIs and 7 stolen bases, with just two errors as he started 54 of 65 games in center field as a junior this spring. "I had a lot of former teammates, coaches and friends who reached out to say congratulations and say how deserving I was to be drafted. It does seem like all the hard work I've put in has paid off. But this starts a new chapter in my life, and everything I've accomplished in the past doesn't matter any more. I have to go out and prove myself again, and I'm ready to do that."  The Astos said they will discuss where I'll be playing this summer!
