"That’s what I told the guys, when you play a team like that, there are things you have to correct, but you have to also realize we won’t see anything like that again," Britt said of Buford's stacked roster. "The sheer depth, the different tight ends they were running out — it was ridiculous. But that’s part of it when your playing a team like that. We’ve got to figure out a way to get healthy and certainly a 4A school playing a team like that when you’re not healthy, that’s what’s going to happen."
Defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright, a senior committed to Texas A&M and Dre Quinn, a senior edge headed to Clemson, caused havoc all night as they helped lead a defense that shut down the Cadet run game, while keeping the pressure on Benedictine quarterback Stephen Cannon, the senior headed to Texas Tech.
Senior offensive lineman Graham Houston, a UGA commit, helped pave the way for the Wolves ground game as a number of backs had impact performances. Dylan McCoy, a senior committed to NC State, rushed for 90 yards and a pair of scores on 10 carries, while his classmate Tyriq Green (Georgia) ran eight times for 44 yards and two scores. Brian Stokes added 57 yards on five carries as the Wolves rushed for 235 yards on the night.
Senior quarterback Dayton Raiola (Nebraska) was 5 of 10 passing for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Braylon Williams had two catches for 75 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown, and Cameron Hurst had a scoring grab.
Benedictine was held to 57 yards rushing and 104 yards of total offense. Junior Stanley Smart Jr. rushed for 59 yards on 17 carries. Cannon connected with a wide open Bubba Frazier, the senior committed to Notre Dame, for a 24-yard score midway through the first quarter as the Cadets tied the game at 7-7, but Buford took control after that with 35 straight points. Cannon slipped out of a tackle and scored from four yards out with 4:43 left for the final points of the game.
The Cadets were coming off a 27-24 loss on a last second field goal at Colquitt County last week in a game where BC was flagged 15 times, many for unsportsmanlike conduct. BC had just two penalties for 20 yards against Buford, and Britt said that was a positive he can take from the game.
"I don't think I saw anything that really impressed me tonight," Britt said of the Cadets performance. "But I’m proud of them and I love them and we’re going to be a very good football team. That’s what I told them, and when we get in our division, it will be a completely different look."
Buford coach Bryant Appling is in his seventh year leading the Wolves. He led Buford to state titles in his first three seasons, and to the semifinals in 2024. Last year, Benedictine traveled to Buford and nearly upset the Wolves in a 29-28 setback. Buford christened a state-of-the-art $62 million stadium with a win over Milton last week in a game that was televised on ESPN2.

Benedictine football coach Danny Britt knew his team would be facing the toughest of challenges in a non-region matchup with Class 6A powerhouse Buford as the Wolves came to Savannah's Memorial Stadium ranked ninth in the nation by the USA Today Network on Friday night.
Mother Nature threw in a wrench into one of the most anticipated Week 2 games in Georgia as lightning storms delayed the kickoff until 9:21 p.m., with another lightning delay pushing things back midway through the first quarter.
The Cadets, ranked No. 2 among Class 4A teams in the state by the AJC, hung tough for a quarter, but Buford, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, just had too much talent and depth to overcome — as the Wolves rolled to a dominating 42-14 victory in a game that ended at 12:19 a.m.
The BC Sports game crew of Christian Goeckel and Kevin Thomas reported that the Wolves have 33 players holding scholarship offers, and Buford won the battle up front on both sides of the ball behind a wealth of talent in the trenches.
"That’s what I told the guys, when you play a team like that, there are things you have to correct, but you have to also realize we won’t see anything like that again," Britt said of Buford's stacked roster. "I've know Coach Britt for a long time and I respect the heck out of him," Appling said. "He coaches his kids up and they know what they want to do and they do it well. Their quarterback (Cannon) is one of the best we've seen and they have a balanced football team. But we got some great play from our defense tonight with Perry-Wright and Quinn leading the way.
"I was impressed with our focus on the road," Appling said. "We had a five-hour road trip this morning. Sometimes we like to stay the night before, but we didn’t this time to see if they could handle some adversity, then they got even more with all the weather delays — but sometimes that seems to make us even more focused. We’ll pull out of here at 1 a.m. and get home at 6 in the morning, so I’m really proud of how we played tonight."
Benedictine (0-2) will be on the road to face Burke County next week. Buford (2-0) has a bye before hosting Roswell on Sept. 5.
